Young man at a Bar Mitzvah celebration

Bar Mitzvahs & Bat Mitzvahs

Bar/Bat Mitzvah

The Jewish right of passage is a cherished tradition, signifying the student’s graduation from the school and their entrance into a new chapter of their own Jewish life.

The JFW IV strives to give all students the tools and skills they need to become Bar or Bat Mitzvah, dedicating the entire 7th grade year to this goal, although member families are not required to have a ceremony.

The JFW IV has made arrangements with Temple Beth Shalom (the Milford congregation that hosts us at their location) to facilitate Bar/Bat Mitzvahs. However, the service-specific tutoring with Rabbi Sol Goodman (including learning the Torah portion) and use of the Temple for the event itself are additional costs charged by Temple Beth Shalom.

Families are free to make their own arrangements for Bar/Bat Mitzvahs using other locations and officiates if they wish. Families within a class year also may choose to have combined B’nai Mitzvah ceremonies where two or more students share the bimah together.
